Athlete Development

Who We Are Looking For

We are recruiting women with competitive endurance backgrounds, including:

Former or current college distance runners
Sub-elite road racers
Cross-country athletes
Marathoners and half-marathoners
Triathletes
Former high school or college standouts
Athletes with Olympic Trials dreams who may be blocked in running events

Ideal candidates may currently be running:

5K: under 22:00
10K: under 46:00
Half marathon: under 1:45–1:55
Marathon: competitive age-group or sub-elite level

These are not hard cutoffs. The most important qualities are endurance, coachability, competitiveness, and the willingness to master legal racewalking technique.

The Targets

Our first major performance goal is simple:

Half Marathon Racewalk

Project 9:00

Half Marathon Racewalk Target:
13.1 miles at 9:00 per mile
Goal time: 1:57:54

That pace may place an athlete in or near the current U.S. national-team conversation, depending on the year, event, and selection procedures.

For marathon racewalk candidates, there is a second pathway:

Project 26.2   Marathon Racewalk

The new marathon racewalk is even thinner nationally. Athletes with strong endurance backgrounds, marathon experience, triathlon experience, or high-mileage durability may have a serious opportunity to develop into U.S. team candidates over the longer distance.

Why Runners Should Consider This

In most running events, the Olympic Trials pathway is brutally crowded.

A very good runner can train for years and still be nowhere near the national top 20.

Racewalking is different. There are less than ten U.S. women competing in the walks, with 15 team spots available.

Because the U.S. field is thin, a serious endurance athlete who converts successfully may move into national relevance much faster than she could in the 5K, 10K, marathon, or track events.

The opportunity is not based on hype.

It is based on the current reality of U.S. racewalking depth.

The LA28 Pathway

2026

Recruit athletes, teach legal technique, build aerobic base, introduce judged racing.

January 2027

Use the U.S. championship racewalk events as an early checkpoint. Not every athlete needs to be ready yet. This is a learning and measuring point.

2027

Develop the core women’s and U20 squad. Build toward national-level half-marathon and marathon racewalk performances. Possible USA Team participation for Pan American Racewalk Cup, NACAC, Pan American Games, select World Athletics Racewalk Tour events.

2028

Target U.S. Olympic Trials qualification, national championship placement, and Team USA opportunities.

The Message

This is for women who still believe they have more.

Maybe you were a strong runner but not quite a national-class runner.

Maybe you were close, but the event was too crowded.

Maybe your endurance is better than your speed.

Maybe your running career has stalled because of injuries.

Maybe you still want to chase something big.

Racewalking may be the opening.

We are forming an elite women’s LA28 racewalk pathway for serious endurance athletes.

The goal is not to participate.

The goal is to build U.S. Olympic Trials and Team USA candidates.
